Despite significant improvements over the last few years, road safety still remains a major concern in Qatar. Every year around 220 people lose their lives and a further 550 are seriously injured due to road accidents. To address this growing concern, QIC, as a key stakeholder of the society has been working collaboratively with various organisations to improve road safety across all elements of the road transport system in Qatar.
QIC is a strategic partner of Qatar Mobility Innovations Centre (QMIC) and is a proud member of Salamtek, a five-member consortium comprising the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning (MMUP), Traffic Directorate of the Ministry of Interior of (Muroor), Ooredoo, Qatar Insurance Company (QIC) and Road Safety Studies Centre (RSSC) of Qatar University that focus on developing, deploying, and promoting innovative applications and services that enhance road safety through innovative insurance offers and incentives.
The solutions and technologies used aim towards achieving road safety by managing Distracted Driving due to mobile phones. The technology help to keep track of unsafe driving by distracted drivers and help to mitigate dangers that exist on the roads of Qatar.
As a first step in its partnership, QIC teamed up with QMIC to launch a pilot project in the form of a Road Safety competition for a group of volunteers from QIC. The pilot project was set out to test the implementation of intelligent telematics platform as a means to assess drivers’ behaviour patterns. This pilot project also paved way for making a positive difference by improving and enhancing road safety, which is a part of the National Road Safety Strategy of Qatar
QIC partnered with Educate A Child (EAC), a global programme that was launched in 2012 by Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser. EAC aims to significantly reduce the number of children worldwide who are denied their right to education. EAC, working with its partner organisations, provides children who are out of school and often faced with extreme poverty, cultural barriers, and conflict-affected environments an opportunity to access quality primary education
QIC partnered with Asian Gymnastics Union (AGU) as the official sponsor of their Annual General Meeting, which was held in Doha between 8th-10th of December, 2014
QIC partnered with Qatar Chess Association (QCA) as the main sponsor for Qatar Masters Open Chess Tournament, which started from 25th November and continued till 5th December, 2014
In 2014, QIC organised a football match for the insurance fraternity professionals in Qatar. Besides serving as a platform to network, the match also helped to build team spirit amongst the players. The match had a spectacular end and QIC’s employees secured the first runner up position
QIC has a sponsorship agreement with Qatar Handball Association for three consecutive years to extend support for all sports activities
QIC signed a contract with Al Rayyan Sports Club for three seasons starting 2013 till 2016 to sponsor their first football team
To increase public awareness about cancer and its prevention at local, regional as well as international levels, QIC extended it’s support to Doha Rugby Clubs on 7th February, 2014 for Think Pink Charity Day. The Rugby match was organised to raise funds for Qatar Cancer Society. The event was marked with great success as QAR 45,000 was raised for charity.
